Credit sales in a restaurant or café: managing customer receivables without losing money
Many restaurants sell to regular customers or companies on credit and note the debt in a notebook. The notebook gets lost, the numbers do not match and collection is late. Here is what a system should provide instead.
What a receivables system must track
A good system turns a debt from a scrap of paper into an accounting record:
- A separate ledger per customer with all invoices, payments and current balance.
- Ability to sell on credit to specific customers only, not to anyone who asks.
- Recording a partial or full payment and linking it to the till.
- A customer balances report showing who owes how much and since when.
- An accounting link so receivables appear as an asset on the balance sheet.
How it works in RAWA
RAWA has a receivables module for credit sales: a sale is tied to a customer, their balance is recorded, their payments (receipts) are logged and posted in accounting. The owner can switch it on or off from the receivables page as needed.
