POS hardware: tablet, stand, cash drawer, receipt printer — what to buy
After choosing the system comes the hardware. Most shops need just four pieces, and the biggest mistake is buying a device that does not work with the system or paying more than needed. Here is the short version.
The four pieces
- Tablet: the cashier screen. A modern Android tablet of a suitable size is enough, ideally kept on charge.
- Tablet stand: holds the device steady, prevents drops and is comfortable for the cashier.
- Cash drawer: opens automatically through the printer on a cash payment.
- 80 mm thermal receipt printer: fast, inkless printing, connected by network (IP) or USB.
Common mistakes
- Buying a printer without network support and then needing a long cable.
- Forgetting to fix the printer's address (static IP), so printing stops after the router restarts.
- A cash drawer that does not connect to the printer (an RJ11 port is needed).
